Hello.

And welcome!

I’m Mike.

I’m a creator
& educator.

My philosophy: learn, teach, create and innovate.

I have a teaching and education portfolio site I call “Learn Teach” because these two verbs are foundational for my approach. We must learn, then teach. Of course I am creative. So, I create and innovate. But there’s more.

My philosophy has been influenced by the “Do it yourself” approach. It’s a way to approach challenges and come up with solutions. DIY motivates me from conception to iteration and development of a project.

My Tdot.com project grew from a social media page called “Tdot Shots” to a full-blown community of creators and innovations like a membership site with courses and portfolio websites for members. Let me walk you through the journey.

In spring of 2018, I launched Tdot Shots on a GO Train while traveling from Niagara to Toronto. It was a sunny long weekend and I was very inspired.

It started as an Instagram page and soon became a website. By 2020, I launched a Greater Toronto Area photo contest with a concept called “Create Community” – during COVID this was conceived with the notion that the local photography community would love to unite around a photo contest during that hard spring.

Between 2022 and 2024, I launched the websites Tdot Connect and Tdot CC to allow creators to take courses, build portfolio sites, connect with one another, and join our events.

Our social media pages have thousands of followers and our in-person events have been supported by hundreds of creators and city explorers.

This portfolio represents some of the designs and some of my philosophical approaches to design, media and education.

Thanks for stopping by. Let me know what you think!

Cheers,
Mike

Graphic Design

This is a collection of blog post feature images and promotional images. I designed all of them. Credit is shared. Some of the photography is mine and some from GTA creators (contest finalists). Some illustrations are from Adobe Firefly. All of the design and layout concepts are mine. Colour is blue/teal/green and gold/orange because a cool + warm aesthetic is pleasing and I have flexibility but maintain brand identity.

More on Philosophy & Approach

You might ask: “What is dual boot?”

It’s using more than one OS (operating system) at a time on your computer. Typically one uses Windows, Mac or Linux.

I like Mac and Linux. I can start up in either one! (I also know my way around Windows).

These days we need a variety of skills and experiences. My familiarity with different computers and devices is an asset.

I play with or enjoy using

  • Android phones
  • Mac, Windows, and Linux on desktop
  • iPads (my iOS fave)
  • Chromebooks (ChromeOS is awesome)

Thank you.

I appreciate you stopping by. If you have a project or position
and would like to discuss how I may play a role, please get in touch.

History / 2020

Inspiration for the Create Community concept is reflected in this photo contest we held in spring of 2020, during the pandemic.
